Schedule

  • Morning: Holy dip at waterbody
  • Afternoon: Cook sattvic meal in earthen vessel
  • Evening: Offer meal to Surya Dev, then eat

The fast begins with a ritual bath and cooking a pure vegetarian meal in earthen pots. Before eating, the food is offered to the Sun.

Kharna

Schedule

  • Full day nirjala fast (no food or water)
  • Evening: Cook kheer with jaggery on wood fire
  • Sunset: Break fast with kheer & puri prasad

A full day of waterless fasting. At sunset, jaggery kheer cooked in an earthen pot on a wood fire is the auspicious prasad.

Sandhya Arghya

Schedule

  • Afternoon: Ghat preparation & decoration
  • 4:00 PM: Gather at ghat with offerings
  • 5:30 PM: Enter water, offer Arghya to setting sun
  • Night: All-night Chhath Geet vigil

The grandest ceremony. Vratin devotees stand waist-deep in water and offer Arghya to the setting sun as folk songs fill the air.

Usha Arghya

Schedule

  • Pre-dawn: Return to ghat with offerings
  • 6:00 AM: Enter water, offer Arghya to rising sun
  • Fast broken — 36-hour vrat complete
  • Prasad distribution to all

Final Arghya at sunrise completes the 36-hour vrat. The community celebrates together with prasad and joyful breakfast.
